Herevana – Renaissance – Unfiltered Series #1

A Five beer Series. A series simply 1-4 and a 15 year celebration beer. Obviously the place to start is at 1 and finish with the 15 year celebration beer. Makes sense to me.

Renaissance Brewing make the Renaissance Unfiltered Series and they do that in🇳🇿 Blenheim, New Zealand.

The Unfiltered Series #1 is and IPA  of 5.6% ABV and 12 IBU, which is 1.9 standard drinks in NZ.

This was a special bundle of beers put tougher by a crowd called www.Beerhug.co.nz and it was tempting enough for me part with my coins.

Expecting light, hoppy, citrus beer according to the label.. what could go wrong?

A lovely looking beer, bright yellow hazy with a really decent head. A full waft aroma makes it smells as appealing as it looks.

My initial take on this is that it’s loaded at the front, the bitterness and the citrus/juciness are quick to fade away to a nice but not puckering bitterness.

What I noticed though is there doesn’t appear to be any lactose assisted fullness in this.

It’s not perfect but this is despite all that a lovely decent enjoyable refreshing and tasty beer, which made me smile.

The Pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 on the arbitrary number scale. This is a nice solid hazy IPA that delivers on taste and looks, but not on that little bit that makes it a stand out. I’m looking forward to the others in the series, this is a great start.

 A classic East Coast IPA malt backbone, loaded with tons of wheat and oats plus a dash of lactose to ensure a silky smooth ‘Milkshake IPA’ mouth-feel. Hopped up with experimental hops NZ102 & NZ107, then fermented with Kviek yeast, resulting in a tropical fruit nose with a hint of pineapple.

Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.
