A life just as ordinary

Just like you, but different

Herevana – #191 – QBrew – 38 Porter

There’s this little brewery, I’m sure they won’t mind me saying little, called QBrew, and I recently brought a 6 pack from them, and I enjoyed them all (with this exception), on the Instagram if you want to look for the pictures. But this is a chance to write a little bit more about one particular beer, a Porter.

QBrew are based in Maungatapere, Northland, New Zealand, and 38 Porter is of course a Porter at 6.1% ABV

A wonderful and fully smokey aroma on opening, rich rich vanilla roasted, it is really nice.

The first sip is important, there is a lovely roasted bitterness in the body, and a light prickly bitterness, this is on point in my opinion as what you could expect and should expect in a Porter.

I’m also enjoying that level of fruit richness that you get, which makes this really pleasant to drink and gives you little gifts of enjoyment as is fills out and warms a little. A beer to enjoy.

The Pdubyah-o-meter rates this as a 9 on the arbitrary number scale. This is a wonderfully enjoyable beer that has a lot going for it, it’s quite bold and stands apart from the other really goods beers that I’ve had from QBrew, this is a star.

Music: I spent some money on the Vinyl version of Audio Vertigo the new album from Elbow. Yes it’s blue, not sure the colour makes a lot of difference.

Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.

Philip himself.

Discover 38 Porter Beer, a full-bodied masterpiece crafted from a blend of seven distinct malts, ranging from pale to rich dark chocolate. It offers a symphony of flavors, allowing you to immerse yourself in the rich notes of coffee, toffee, and caramel, complemented by a light hop aroma. With the unmistakable touch of smoked Manuka malt, this brew has maintained its timeless allure since its inception in 2017. It’s a classic that never falters.

Brewers Notes

Porter

The English Porter is moderate-strength, light brown to dark brown colored beer with a restrained roasty malt character and bitterness. It may have a range of roasted flavors, generally without burnt qualities, and often has a chocolate-caramel-malty profile. More substance and roast than a British Brown Ale and higher in gravity than a Mild Ale. It differs from an American Porter in that it usually has softer, sweeter and more caramelly flavors as well as usually less alcohol. American Porter will also typically have more of a bitter hop character. Some stronger, hoppier and/or roastier version of porter are called Robust Porter.
