*in a Sean Connery voice* Here we have a beer I’ve been hunting for – 8 Wired Red Oktober.
Well it is Octoberfest time, and there is a a deluge of beers to choose from, and so I went a little off piste with a Vienna Lager instead of any of the myriad Pilsners, Lagers, Dünkels, etc, plenty of time for those. “be a leader” I thought to myself….
8 Wired Brewing make the Red October in Warkworth, Auckland, 🇳🇿 New Zealand, and it is a Vienna Lager style beer of 5.53% – the 440ml can is 1.8 standard drinks in New Zealand
How magnificent it looks in the glass (I probably could have wiped off the condensation), and that head is so inviting, a strong malty aroma makes me smile.
The first sup, this is quite sweet and bready, and there’s a lurking musty note somewhere that I can’t pin down, which if course could be my wild imagination. 2nd gulp shows I could be making it up, the lovely caramel malts have had time to align themselves and settle the show, this becomes a super tasty easy to drink beer. I say became it probably started that way I just had to have patience.

The nice thing about Octoberfest beers is that you’re pretty much assured some very fresh beers, which may or may not be a good thing, I might have thought that this would have been a little greener, but I’m pleasantly surprised that this is the finished article. And whilst I might like ti to be a little bolder I’ve got no complaints.
Could easily be made better with some cheese, crackers, sausage of various kinds, all of which are just thoughts at the moment because as you know thoughts are not actions and the cheese and crackers at lease remain in the fridge and cupboard, the sausage didn’t buy itself and so there’s none of that. A shambles.
The Pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 on the arbitrary scale. It is lovely and madly and crisp and has a rightful place in the line-up of beers that need to be enjoyed at any decent Octoberfest event, even if it’s only a can or two at home.
Music: It should be no surprise that I’m still listening to this.
Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.
Philip himself.
Enjoy this toasty Vienna style lager, a moreish and refreshing drop. It’s full-flavoured, with just enough crispness to balance out the generous, bready, toffee malt backbone. Ready your engines, this Red Oktober is well worth the pursuit.
