A life just as ordinary

Just like you, but different

Tales from the Beer Fridge

I’m on a journey through an explosion of craft / speciality / Micro-Brewery beers. It’s a challenge that I’m enjoying, but the immediate problem I have is that I’ve got a backlog of things that I’d like to drink.

I have imposed a couple of rules on myself. They, like the beers, are fluid. I’d prefer not to have to drink from more than one brewery at a time. So I would have both the Heen and Weer, followed by the Bed and Breakfast, for instance, but I doubt I’d have the Le Freak followed by the OREgasmic. Unless I was thirsty and the first one was a complete travesty and the pdubyah-o-meter failed to register a satisfaction.

So the list is looking long and inviting and just having a list means that I’m compulsively buying beers. Shame on me. The list, which contains a bit of everything,  currently is;

  • Brouwerij de Molen – De Molen Heen & Weer (Back & Forth)
  • Brouwerij de Molen – De Molen Bed & Breakfast
  • Golden Eagle Brewery – SIPA
  • Invercargill Brewery – Invercargill Sa!son
  • Invercargill Pitch Black Boysenberry Stout
  • Dead Good Beer – Golden Ale
  • Dead Good Beer – IPA
  • Green Flash  –  Le Freak
  • Chatoe Rogue  – OREgasmic Ale
  • Shepherd Neame Spitfire

    There really is no limit to beer out there these days. Good luck on your journey through them all.

      I like the “all”, but the problem really is that despite there being a bazillion, and despite that in the last year or so a lot more variety being available, I’m going to run out of choice in NZ. Perhaps.

        There’s a new place here in Sacramento, California, where I live. It’s called Totally Wine … which explains the massive beer selection they have. I went there today for the second time. The first time, when I walked in and saw what lay before me, I walked out … I simply did not have the time to deal realistically with the options. I went back today. I’ll be going back again. There simply is not an American craft brew, European, Mexican, etc., as well as cheap American crap … brew that is not there. It’s almost like a book store … give me unlimited $$ and unlimited time and I’d buy everything there.
