Brewed to commemorate the 15th Birthday of Pomeroy’s Pub in Christchurch.

Epic loves you.

So, What could possibly go wrong? It’s a birthday beer, so not much I imagine.

Lovely green hop aroma on this as you open it, on a rich undertone of sweetness.

Lovely golden gold colour with a lovely white white head that is large and fluffy and bright. Aroma in the glass is of beer that’s hoppy and fruity.

That’s jolly pleasant and lovely. A big burst of bitterness that is carried on a really soft middle and a finish that’s a kiss of dry, with a lovely lingering mouthfeel. That’s a proper party that is.

epic-danger-zoneThis has a lot of nice things going for it, the bitterness might be slightly peaky and all the front but what follows is rather nice.

particularly that lovely tropical fruit thing, today I’m picking Mango, since that would be a thing I can think of. I don’t get anything that suggests grapefruit, but it could be there.

If I was as an esteemed a venue as Pomeroy’s and someone made me a beer like this I’d be well chuffed.  Happy Birthday, and congratulations to both parties.Beer like this makes it all a bit worthwhile

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 of its things from the thing. All that nice chit chat and then you mark it as “very good”. Well yes it is very good, and should sell in the big numbers if it’s available, I doubt it’ll be around long. This is a really nice go-to beer, it’s easy to drink has a bag of flavour and character. It’s not pretending to be something extraordinary but it’s above ordinary.

The double dip review

  • Where did I get it? Liquorland had it, I imagine they still do.
  • Am I enjoying it? I am this is a lovely way to kick off a Friday
  • Would I have another? Oath yes
  • Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? I just might, this is a lovely beer that has a lot of decent no nonsense IPA things going for it, and whilst it’s not stand out in any sense of stand out it is rather enjoyable and a lovely bit of IPA in a bottle.

Music for this:  ” Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings ”  “100 days and 100 nights ” on Spotify

Sharon Lafaye Jones is an American soul and funk singer. She is the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk band based in Brooklyn, New York.. Sadly she died the day  I started to write this.

INDIA PALE ALE & IPA

India Pale Ale gets its name and unique style from British brewers who were making beer for export to India. This style has an intense hop flavor which was used to preserve the beer for the long voyage. India Pale Ale has a golden to copper color with a medium maltiness and body. The aroma is moderate to very strong. IPAs work especially well at cutting the heat of chili, vindaloo or Sichuan cuisine.
