Beer – #898 – Birra del Borgo – ReAle Extra

Birra del Borgo ReAle Extra.  The last of the 12 box for this round, a new one carries Tuesday, and this should be a pretty special way to get there.

an explosion of perfume

This is  375ml bottle of a beer that is of 75 IBU and 6.4% ABV, that’s 192 calories  a serve size, this is around 1.7 standard drinks in NZ

Brewed by Birra del Borgo (AB InBev), this one is in the style that is a India Pale Ale (IPA) and they do that in Borgorose (RI), Italy

A derivative of our regular ReAle, the hops are varied especially in quantity: a huge amount is added in a different technique.

It is a small bottle

It is a small bottle

All the hops are added during the last 10 minutes of the boil, using 3 times more than regular ReAle.

The result is an explosion of perfumes, in a range from citrusy to resiny (pine resin and incense).

The mouth feel is dry, with immediate bitterness, then it finishes with a beautiful, persistent tangerine note

So, What could possibly go wrong?

I get a more sour note on opening, then it’s really sweet but sharp at the same time.

Hazy orange pour with a orange tinge in the brilliant fully and firm head, the aroma in the grass is really much better, grassy hoppy, and sweet.

birra-del-borgo-reale-extraI was so enjoying this that I can’t think of annoying bad to say, it’s just a really nice bit of beer that engages you, drinks well, looks pretty in the the glass leaves a lovely lacing, and a regret that again you didn’t get a second one.

Beers like this, you appreciate beers like this. The Beer Jerk club has been awesome for stretching out and bringing new beers and brewers to the table.

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 9 of its things from the thing. It’s rated highly over a lot of people, and it should be, this is such a nice IPA, the same but also different to the big field it plays in, love that hop bitterness, and that balanced bitterness just appealed to me. Much happy.

The double dip review

  • Where did I get it? Beer Jerk NZ Beer Club.
  • Am I enjoying it?  Yes.
  • Would I have another?  Yes
  • Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? You’d have to take a couple of bottles because this is rather good beer that doesn’t last long and is one that leaves you really thinking that you’d need another to really appreciate it 🙂

Music for this:  ” Scott Bradley’s Postmodern Jukebox” and ” 33 Resolutions Per Minute” on Spotify

Postmodern Jukebox, also widely known by the initialism PMJ, is a rotating music collective founded by arranger and pianist Scott Bradlee in 2011.

INDIA PALE ALE & IPA

India Pale Ale gets its name and unique style from British brewers who were making beer for export to India. This style has an intense hop flavor which was used to preserve the beer for the long voyage. India Pale Ale has a golden to copper color with a medium maltiness and body. The aroma is moderate to very strong. IPAs work especially well at cutting the heat of chili, vindaloo or Sichuan cuisine.

Absolutely splendid choice of music Phil, may even try a “Birra del Borgo” too. Sounds a bit too foreign though. 🙂
