Part of the 10 year re-brew and they’ve really done themselves well with this 4 pack. It’s easy to forget that I’ve been drinking this since 2012, and enjoyed many fine pints at the brewpub in Browns Bay.
What a wonderful way to start a Friday evening, the expectation is high.
Deep Creek Brewing Co make the Deep Creek Dusty Gringo in Auckland, 🇳🇿, New Zealand, and it’s in the style that is an IPA – Black / Brown / Cascadian Dark beer with an ABV of 6.8% and with 60 IBU. The 440ml c an is 2.4 standard drinks.
India Brown Ale. A variation.
Lovely hoppy on opening. Wonderfully hoppy in the glass too. Cunningly I founds a glass the right size.
lovely clear refry brown pour.
The taste is brilliant! Comforting old friend. Malty rich with a gorgeous bitterness that carries this well.
There’s a gorgeous full lingering taste in this too. one to really savour which is alarming as there seems to be quit ea bit missing already. A beer that just invites you to sip regularly and enjoy immensely.
A splendid beer, that I’ve enjoyed at the bar on a many occasions when it’s been available. I’m enjoying the canned version but can’t help feel that the tap version is somewhat brighter and fuller. That or I’m getting hold and having a remarkably bad recall on how I remember this.
Either way I’m glad the Dusty Gringo rides again, it really does call back all those years ago when I first had this, and it was remarkable then, age has done it well
The Pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 on the arbitrary number scale. Easy to wax lyrical about a memory beer. This has lots of malty richness, hides that ABV really well and leaves you with an accomplished and really enjoyable beer. Not at all surprised this was a peoples choice winner.
Music. Andy Bell. The View from Halfway Down. He is best known for his work with the bands Ride, Hurricane #1, Oasis, and Beady Eye.
Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.
Philip himself.
This beer plays with the balance of dark chocolaty malt flavours and American citrusy and tropical hops. It’s one of the original Deep Creek beers that’s been perfected over the years.
This India Brown Ale is just big in every aspect and packs so much flavour and complexity yet still maintaining balance and drinkability
Brewers Notes
The Black India Pale Ale (IPA), also known as Cascadian Dark Ale, is a dark brown to black colored beer with the dryness, hop-forward balance, and flavor characteristics of an American IPA, only darker in color but without strongly roasted or burnt flavors. The flavor of darker malts is gentle and supportive, not a major flavor component. Balance and overall impression of an American or Double IPA with restrained roast similar to the type found in Schwarzbiers. Not as roasty-burnt as American stouts and porters, and with less body and increased smoothness and drinkability. Similarly, the Brown IPA, also known as India Brown Ale, is hoppy, bitter, and moderately strong like an American IPA, but with some caramel, chocolate, toffee, and/or dark fruit malt character as in an American Brown Ale. Retaining the dryish finish and lean body of IPAs, a Brown IPA is a little more flavorful and malty than an American IPA without being sweet or heavy. “Imperial” and “Session” variants are generally closer-related to the base substyle and should be listed with them.
