A life just as ordinary

Just like you, but different

Herevana – Epic – Portamarillo Rebooted

Epic Portamarillo Rebooted, a beer made with Tamarillos.

Lots of 10 year celebrations going on, and this is obviously amongst them, and from reviews by others it’s rather nice. I have no idea, but I’m about to find out.

Epic Portamarillo Rebooted is made in Auckland, 🇳🇿  New Zealand in the style that is a Porter – Imperial Flavored  with an ABV of 9.0%, and the serve is a bout 270 calories. This is around 3.6 standard drinks in NZ.

Such a roasty toasty and malty aroma on opening.

A deep dark brown colour on the pour that sites much darker and dense in the glass, the milky coffee colour head is very full and dense.

That lovely aroma sites nicely in the glass.

I have to say that this is really lush and indulgent, feels creamy and very full. There’s an underlying smokiness and a prickling bitterness there as well.

Of course there is also a lovely fruitiness in this, that seems to be a lot bigger than it might really be. It certainly in in time and tune and balance with the the other elements in the beer.

There’s quite a lot to this that unfolds as you drink it, it’s like every element is taking a bow at the front before allowing the next one up. It seems very clever. It is really delicious.

This is a drinking beer, a beer that you sit and enjoy, discover and get into, it’s not a quaffer.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Porter quite this good.

The Pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 9 on the arbitrary number scale. Brilliant indulgent beer, with lots of things to really like done in a way that is easy to enjoy and appreciate. The smokiness, the smoothness, that little prickle and the underlying sweet fruitiness. Amazing.

Music: Men I trust have a Spotify available album called ” Untourable Album” Men I Trust is a Canadian indie band from Montreal, Quebec. Bit of Dream Pop.

Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.

Philip himself.

“It was over 10 years ago that Epic Brewing teamed up with the USA craft beer giants Dogfish Head at their Rehobeth Beach pub. From there, the Portamarillo was born. A unique international brew infused with tangy Tamarillos grilled over native New Zealand Pohutakawa.”

Brewers Notes

Porter – Imperial Flavored

The Flavored Imperial Porter is a substantial, extra-strong dark malty beer with a complex and flavorful dark malt character with a restrained bitterness and with a clear flavoring element. It may have a range of roasted flavors, generally without burnt qualities, and often has a chocolate-caramel-malty profile. It also feature an harmonious marriage of the additive and beer, but still recognizable as a beer. The additive character should be evident but in balance with the beer. (For example: fruits, spices, herbs, vegetables, coffee, honey, chocolate, maple sirup, chilies, nuts, vanilla, liquor – BUT not including Smoked malt, barrel-aging or a Sour element resulting from the brewing process)
