A life just as ordinary

Just like you, but different

Herevana – Sailors Grave – Wild Strawberries

It’s Thursday, which means that it is of course the Beer Jerk beer of the week, it’s also Christmas Eve, and I don’t know how that’s important.

Sailors Grave Wild Strawberries is brewed in 🇦🇺 Orbost, Victoria, Australia, and it’s a Special Seasonal beer in the style that is Sour / Wild Beer – Flavored.  At 4.8% this is 1.4 standard drinks in NZ (and Australia)

Beer is pretty fun, but wouldn’t you rather go pick some of those… WILD, STRAWBERRIES?

To the strains of the PNAU banger, Sailors Grave did just that. Sour, funky and full of foraged strawberry.

Brewed for #GABS2018.

I’m not bothered about the #GABS thing, I’m having Herevana regardless.

Strawberries are nice

I am having trepidation though, sour beers are either great or they are a sherbert shambles. I’m also concerned that this has “foraged strawberries”, I’m not sure what kind of place Orbost is but where are you finding fields of forgeable strawberries.

It’s a murky orange cloudy pour with a head that is bright white but not large or prominent. The aroma does lead you towards fruit, probably strawberries of course.

This is both things, there’s some lovely strawberry notes and that’s pleasing, but this is the kind of sour beer that I really don’t like, the one that veers towards that chemical sherbert type, similar to the sour snakes and lollies that you can get.

I’m pretty sure that the sourness in this in some way triggers a chemical response like an addiction response, but it really isn’t for me.

I don’t really like it, the pdubyah-o-meter says 7 arbitrary things on the scale of things, it is saved in a large part by the strawberry note that is lovely.

Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.

Philip himself.
