That’s correct, sometimes it’s not all about beer, sometimes it’s new things. This time it’s about Alice Hard Brewed Tea – The one with Rooibos
Actually Rooibos with Orange and Lemon Peel.
The whole Seltzer thing passed me by, I’m not a big fan of AlcoPops and that is just they way I saw Seltzer. What should have been a warning was the rocket rise of offerings, which has lead to an equally quick about turn and return to business as usual.
But Tea, well tea is different. I drink tea daily. Black Tea mostly and the occasional Green Tea, so when I saw hard tea available in NZ well what was I supposed to do. So here I am.
A 330ml bottle of alcohol Tea at 5% – making this 1.3 standard drinks in NZ. Alice is a Premium Tea Brewing company based in beautiful Pokeno – just south of the Bombay Hill.
I’ve chosen Rooibos first, I’ve had Rooibos Beer, BlackSands Brewery made one once. It was challenging and not a typical New Zealand flavour, beer or tea, I understand that it is a big deal in South Africa.
A really intriguing aroma, I rather fancy the lemon is bringing that.
The pour is a cider like really pale yellow, and there is plenty of carbonation, as you might expect. I still fancy that Lemon in the aroma but there is something else I’m not familiar with, and I’m guessing it is the Rooibos.
As I expected the taste challenges me, and although not an expert in Rooibos this is the same as I’ve had before, muted and softer, lighter but still quite base and earthy in its way.
Really did enjoy the carbonation, really did like the lemon and orange additions and this has a wonderful level of sweetness.
The Pdubyah-o-meter rates this as a 7 on the arbitrary scale. I’ve got nowhere to go on this really. It must be by default the best hard tea in NZ as I’m not aware of others. I’m handicapped of course by my lack of familiarity with the key ingredient. But this is totally acceptable drinking and I’m not really having any problems enjoying it.
Music The Replacements – Tim
Herevana beers are those I drink at home, I’m not at some beer festival, like, for instance, Beervana, but am just in my kitchen, usually, dining room table, sometimes, or outside, occasionally, where I can take an average picture and write in real time about the beer that I’ve invested in, both in a monetary and emotional way.
