A life just as ordinary

Just like you, but different

Beer – #891 – Nomad – Long Trip

Thursday, BeerJerkNZ beer club night, and tonight it’s a Nomad Long Trip, A Saison. I love a good Saison.

..some fantastic unique..

This then is a bottle of a beer that is 330ml and  has within 39 IBU things,  it is of 6.6% ABV, making it some 1.72 standard drink units.

Brewed by Nomad Brewing Companyin the style that is a Saison and they’re in Brookvale, Australia

This is our trip!!

Smiling man summer beer

Smiling man summer beer

Combination of pale and wheat malts, with the addition into the mash of a special variety of coffee beans from a local specialist roaster.

European and American hops then get combined with some fantastic unique Australian ingredients, like wattle seeds added at the end of the boil.

Our aim is to create a dry, clean and very sessionable Saison, with hints of coffee, citrus and spice..

So, What could possibly go wrong? Sun came out, summer arrived for the afternoon.

That has a really strong bold aroma on opening, that sour cider like freshness.

A Golden orange bright beer with a head that’s large and full, very well carbonated. It looks properly nice.

Lovely earthy aroma in the glass.

nomad-long-tripTaste is bitterness, but refreshingly so, with a hint of something dryer and more astringent in there, but that isn’t there.

Sweetness grows into this and it becomes a full mouthfeel, full flavour beer that just keeps giving.

This is as good as saison as I think you could possibly hope to get, which is a bold statement, but if you don’t like the yeast profile, or the way that the other things seem to build in to a solid tasty refreshing beer then, well, you know, you can’t like every beer, but you’ve missed a treat with this.

This has all the things I wanted in a Saison, in spades.. Those BeerJerk chaps have hot upon other gem and have again delivered.

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 of its things from the thing. My recons is that this is between very good and great, and I can’t do a half. It is however very good, perhaps doublepplus good in Orwell money.

The double dip review

  • Where did I get it?  BeerJerkNZ beer of the week, they always have the good stuff.
  • Am I enjoying it? It is a beer I’d be happy to see in my fridge, this is lovely.
  • Would I have another? Yes, please.
  • Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? Not a question that this is a beer that you’d be proud to turn up with, it’s a beer that lends itself to lots of comparisons in style around pilsners/lagers/Abby ales but stands on it’s own merits of fullness, flavour and enjoyment. Get some, you’ll be chuffed.

SAISON

Fruity esters dominate the aroma. Clarity is good with a large foamy head on top. The addition of several spices and herbs create a complex fruity or citrusy flavor. Light to medium bodied with very high carbonation. Alcohol level is medium to high.
