A life just as ordinary

Just like you, but different

Beer – #668 – Brewdog – Punk IPA 5.6

I’ve reviewed this when I’ve had this in bottles, and I’ve had it out on my travels.

Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother fucker of a pale ale

Now at home from the keg this is a 1 litre  bottle of the 5.6% ABV beer,  and IBU of 45. For calories this comes in  in at 168 a serving size, and   4.42 drink units

Brewed by BrewDog in the style of an India Pale Ale (IPA) and they are in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother fucker of a pale ale.

A beer that spent its formative years Blitzkrieg bopping around India and the sub continent. Quintessential Empire with an anarchic twist.

God save the Queen and all who sail in her. Raising a Stiff Little Finger to IPAs that have come before and those it is yet to meet.

You want some ?

You want some ?

Turn up the volume Pay the man. Embrace the punked up, fucked up outlaw elite.

Never Mind the Bollocks this is the real shit.

This fresh, full flavour natural beer is our tribute to the classic IPAs of yester-year. The post modern twist is the addition of amazing fruity hops giving an explosion of tropical fruit flavours and a sharp bitter finish.

So, what could possibly go wrong?

Floral and sweet aroma on opening this, they should make it into a lolly.

Pour is the place orange yellow, and a lovely crisp white head of a little substance forms.

Bitterness, florals, sweetness, bitterness, all preceded by a lovely nose of floral things.

Punk IPADry finish that surprises. Taste is quite tame really compared to some of the monster beers that I’ve had recently, this is almost gentlemanly in it’s approach and delivery, and very welcome it is too.

A proper beer to drink properly, even if I have it in the fancy glass, I feel I should have got the pint pot out.

Properly enjoying this too, a proper IPA with brilliant taste and enjoyment.

Where you have the hop-forward hooligans this is in that following pack, perhaps leading it, of IPA done well and brilliantly. It really is just the thing.

A really really good go-to beer, if only it was available readily, offers up a set of tastes and does it well without surprises and catches, and it doesn’t need a calming food influence to be enjoyable or to counterpoint, this is just nice on its own.

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 9 of its things from the thing. I like this a lot, it’s really decent drinking IPA done well, and reminds you that hop-forward isn’t always the best thing, or the thing to be chasing, and that just a nice IPA sometimes hits the spot. This would make a great go-to beer if only it was always available, but then we have some absolute cracker IPA’s that would give it a decent run for the money. But it would be close indeed.

The double dip review

  • Am I enjoying it? Yes I am
  • Would I have another? Yes I would if only I could persuade MrsPhil to pop out, alas.
  • Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights?  You know I would because this is just good, very good, drinking beer. And I’m playing The Cure to go along with and that makes it just a bit better.

Music for this on very loud is ” The Cure” and ” Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me” on of course Spotify. How could you not play this loud and often ?  From 1987 then the track is Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

INDIA PALE ALE & IPA

India Pale Ale gets its name and unique style from British brewers who were making beer for export to India. This style has an intense hop flavor which was used to preserve the beer for the long voyage. India Pale Ale has a golden to copper color with a medium maltiness and body. The aroma is moderate to very strong. IPAs work especially well at cutting the heat of chili, vindaloo or Sichuan cuisine.
